ANNOUNCEMENT
Senior
Medical Student Program in the USA
The State University of New York, School of Medicine and
Biomedical Sciences at BUFFALO and The State University of New
York, Upstate Medical University at SYRACUSE entered into an
agreement with the four Medical Universities in Hungary to
provide 3 month credit, bearing senior electives to medical
students who are in their 6th year of education.
This program is sponsored and managed by the
HUNGARIAN
MEDICAL ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA (HMAA)
The purpose of the Program is to facilitate the exchange of
personnel, experience and knowledge between the involved Medical
Universities. With this program the HMAA contributes and
provides broad medical knowledge to young Hungarian physicians
who are entering the Hungarian Health Care System.
Students may take electives in any field available to the senior
year in both American Medical Schools.
Students are expected to provide:
- Round trip air transportation
- Cost of books, materials if
required
- Health insurance
- Meal costs (some Buffalo
departments provide meal tickets for use in the
hospital)
- Medical liability (coordinated

Student housing is provided by the
HMAA in Buffalo, although students are expected to pay $150.00 USD
a month each to offset some of the costs.
Who can apply?
Hungarian medical students of the
four Hungarian Medical Universities who are in their 5th year of
education beginning September 2002.
Requirements (written in 3 copies):
- Completed Application Form
- Letter of recommendation from
the Dean
- Letter of recommendation from
two different department chairmen
- Copy of index and statement of
the medical student status, curriculum vitae, and letter of
motivation/intent
- Toefel exam passport size
photo
The application must be complete,
otherwise it will be automatically rejected
All students must submit an EXIT INTERVIEW to HMAA Chair after the
end of rotation Application Form is available at your Medical
School from the HMAA representatives/advisors.
